A. A Carrier Strike Group, formerly known as a battle group has been used since WWII and consists of a carrier, with an embarked air crew and its escorts. During the 2005 deployment, the NIMITZ Strike Group consisted of USS NIMITZ (CVN 68), USS PRINCETON (CG 59), USS CHAFFEE (DDG 90), USS HIGGINS (DDG 76), USNS BRIDGE (T-AOE 10), various submarines and Carrier Air Wing ELEVEN, which included: VFA 41, VFA 14, VMFA 232, VFA 94, VAQ 117, HS-6, VAQ 135 and VRC 30 detachment.
