What is the NHSC LRP Half-Time Pilot Project?
The NHSC LRP Half-Time Pilot Project recruits fully-trained health professionals to provide culturally competent, interdisciplinary primary health services to underserved populations located in selected Health Professional Shortage Area (HPSAs) identified by the Secretary of the Department of Health and Human Services. HPSAs can be found in rural, frontier, and urban communities across the Nation. In return, the NHSC LRP Half-Time Pilot Project provides assistance to clinicians in their repayment of qualifying educational loans that are still owed. Until now, only clinicians providing full-time clinical service have participated in the NHSC LRP. The NHSC LRP is now recruiting clinicians to serve half-time. The NHSC defines half-time as a minimum of 20 hours per week (not to exceed 39 hours per week), of which at least 16 hours are dedicated to providing direct patient care.
