8.5 is the newest one available to the public, or the beta 9 is available too for MSN testers, you have to register with them to get this, I have it and it does seem to have better features than 8.5 athough still not without little faults, hence beta version!

The newest one is windows live messenger plus, same as windows live messenger but with a few added bits. More customise options etc!
