What is the New York State Social Studies Exam?
The New York State Social Studies Exam is given at in November each year to students in grade 5. The New York State grade 5 exam has three parts. Part I and II contains 35 multiple-choice questions, 60 % 4th grade content and 40% 3rd grade content, and several short answer response questions. The students have 90 minutes to complete this section of the test. Section 2, Part IIIA: consists of document-based short answer questions, also known as scaffolding.
