What is the new opera training program?
The new Workshop (Opera Delaware Artist Training Workshop—ODAT for short) is designed for young people ages 7-17 interested in performing onstage and improving performance techniques and technical skills. Julie Van Blarcom, Executive Director of Opera Delaware says, “We are so excited to launch the Opera Delaware Artist Training Workshop. It brings to fruition one of Opera Delaware’s visions and builds on an earlier youth program, the successful and award-winning Family Opera Theater, which allowed local children to perform side-by-side with adults and paid professionals in a full-scale production effort.” Producing Artistic Director Leland Kimball says, “This program is one more way that Opera Delaware is taking its artist training to another level. We are taking the youngest performers in our community and grooming them for greater roles—such as future members of our Children’s Chorus and eventually members of our Adult Chorus and perhaps lead singers.” As part of the Workshop, Opera
