It is a regional community foundation focused on inspiring philanthropy and changing lives in the Hampton Roads region of Virginia. In December 2008 the boards of The Norfolk Foundation and The Virginia Beach Foundation announced plans to merge the two community foundations. The new community foundation will begin operations in 2009.
