What is the new Federal Law and do I have to comply?
In December 2007 congress passed the Virginia Graeme Baker Pool and Spa Safety Act, for the elimination of suction and hair entrapment in pubic pools. The law mandates that public swimming pools and spas be equipped with anti-entrapment main drain and suction covers that meet the ASME/ANSI A112.19.8-2007 performance standard. In addition any swimming pool or spa that is constructed with a single main drain, other than an approved unblockable drain, must be equipped with an additional device or system designated to prevent suction entrapment. The law also applies to skimmer equalize suction outlet covers. The date for compliance with these regulations is December 19, 2008. Non-Compliance can result in fines and the closing of the pool.
