What is the Net of Indra?

Indra was one of the original Vedic gods, a heroic fire-god later to be supplanted in importance by Shiva, Ram, etc. I’m not sure where the Net of Indra first appeared on the scene, but according the Chinese Buddhists of the Hua-Yen school, the Net is in Indra’s palace, and it extends in infinite directions. At each “node” or eye of the net there is a perfectly clear jewel, which reflects the totality of all the other jewels in the Net.
