What is the NEPA process?
The National Environmental Policy Act of 1969 (NEPA), as amended, is our basic national charter for protection of the environment. The NEPA ensures that high quality, accurate scientific analysis and environmental information is available to public officials and citizens before decisions are made and before actions are taken. The NEPA process is intended to help public officials make decisions that are based on a thorough understanding of environmental consequences. FAA’s regulations for implementing the NEPA require an Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) for approval of this Project. NEPA requires the FAA to measure the impact the Proposed Project will have on existing conditions and future existing conditions.
