What is the need rating if the service user’s perception is that there is no problem, but they are receiving help?
Always record the service user’s stated perspective when making the user rating, even if this appears irrational or inconsistent with what is known about them. If they say that there is no problem, it may be helpful to ask if they are receiving any help in that area. If they are, ask them what the help is for. If they acknowledge that the help prevents the problem occurring, then the need rating is 1 (met need). If they say that the help is not connected with the problem, or that they are not getting any help, then the need rating is 0 (no need).
