What is the need for a skill mission when government is already having so many bodies involved in skill training?
To answer this question we must understand the genesis of National Skill Development Mission itself. When the planning commission was preparing 11th five year plan it was pointed out by one study that India is placed in a very peculiar situation. The situation is that by 2020 India will have highest number of youth compared to any other country in the world. The whole world would be looking at India for young manpower. This is what also being referred as “demographic dividend”. But unfortunately the way our youth are getting trained in a haphazard manner we are not only likely to loose this opportunity but will also surely create a huge – huge problem for us. So there is an urgent need to systematize the skill development efforts in the country. Otherwise we may convert the “Demographic dividend” into a “demographic nightmare”.
