What is the NEB 30-metre safety zone?
The safety zone is essentially a “call before you dig” zone that the Board instituted in 1990. It is a 30-metre wide area on either side of the pipeline ROW. Section 112 of the NEB Act establishes the safety zone (also called the control zone) and states that a person cannot excavate deeper than about one foot using power-operated equipment or use explosives in the safety zone unless permission is first obtained from the pipeline company.
