What is the NBN Blueprint?
The National Biospecimen Research Network Blueprint (NBN Blueprint PDF Document: 7.06 MB) is a design plan describing concrete recommendations for developing a National Biospecimens Network–a common infrastructure intended to enhance the collection of biospecimens and the biorepositories that manage them. Such an infrastructure would harness the potential of new technologies for cancer research, while ensuring that the privacy interests of biospecimen donors are preserved. The NBN Blueprint was developed with the participation and cooperation of many stakeholders in the public and private cancer community, including researchers, clinicians, and patient advocates. The NBN Design Team visited state-of-the-art biospecimen banking facilities, conducted interviews with experts, and commissioned a RAND study to identify best practices in the design and operation of existing biospecimen repositories.
