When Davy Jones forsook the duty given to him by Calypso, he and his crew became monstrous, and presumably so did the ship itself.[2] The crew of the Dutchman cannot be killed,[3] and can survive, presumably indefinately, underwater.[4] As Jones asks potential crew members to serve for “a hundred years before the mast”, it is possible that they are literally unable to die until their century is up — by which point they will likely have merged completely with the ship anyway, as with Wyvern.
