What is the National Reporting System (NRS)?
The National Reporting System is a mechanism for reporting outcomes in adult English language, literacy and numeracy programs. One of its aims is to provide a common language to describe the achievements of learners working across a range of programs using a variety of curricula. The NRS has five levels of competence that reflect: • text and task complexity of language, literacy and numeracy activities • familiarity with texts and tasks • level of support an individual needs to perform an activity. Indicators of Competence are used to report on the performance of individuals in carrying out an activity. They must be interpreted in conjunction with the: • conditions of performance • language, literacy and/or numeracy performance features and strategies.
