What is the National Relay Service?
The National Relay Service (NRS) provides access to the telephone network between people who have a hearing impairment or speech impairment or are Deaf, and the wider community. The NRS can be accessed by a teletypewriter (TTY), computer and modem or standard telephone. A Relay Officer (RO) is involved to facilitate all calls. The service has a range of options to meet the needs of those who use it including Voice, Text, Voice Carry Over (VCO), Hearing Carry Over (HCO), and Speech to Speech Relay (SSR). The NRS operates worldwide 24 hours a day everyday of the year.
