What is the National Marrow Donor Program® Registry?

0

The National Marrow Donor Program® is an international network of member medical facilities dedicated to helping people live longer, healthier lives through transplantation of bone marrow stem cells. Carter BloodCare’s National Marrow Donor Program® of Dallas is a member of NMDP®. Often a critically ill patient’s own family members are not a match for bone marrow stem cell donation. The NMDP® Registry includes typing information for potential donors worldwide. The more than 500 member facilities search the typing data in the Registry for the best match of typing for patients to registered potential donors. Beside the hope of renewed health through bone marrow stem cell transplantation, patients benefit from properly matched typing through the elimination of many of the possible post-transplant health complications.
