NCI’s goal in tobacco research is to understand the causes of tobacco use, addiction, and related cancers and to apply this knowledge to prevention and treatment. NCI is advancing tobacco research by conducting and supporting numerous research grants, partnerships, and special initiatives, including the Transdisciplinary Tobacco Use Research Centers and the Tobacco Research Initiative for State and Community Interventions, among many other projects.
