What is the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards (NBPTS)?
The National Board for Professional Teaching Standards is a nonprofit agency that facilitates an advanced teacher certification that is based on high and rigorous standards (see: http://www.nbpts.org/ and http://www.firn.edu/doe/dpe/memos/dpe02-14a.pdf). Many districts provide reimbursement for NBPTS certification and also provide an increased salary for NBPTS certificated teachers (see the Florida Candidate Subsidy Program at the http://www.nbpts.org/about/stateinfo.cfm?state=Florida link.
