What Is The Name Of The Nutrient Substance Used To Grow A Bacteria Culture?
A bacteriological medium is composed of known chemical compounds like some carbohydrates, proteins, nucleic acids, lipids, vitamins, peptones, meat and yeast extracts and certain other complex organic substances. The medium is called CHEMICALLY DEFINED or SYNTHETIC MEDIUM. Agar is added as a non-nutritive solidifying agent. Nutrient agar and nutrient broth are simple solid and liquid media for growth of heterotrophs. In addition to all nutrients bacterial growth also needs physical conditions like TEMPRATURE, gaseous conditions, pH, illumination, hydrostatic pressure and so on. That’s why incubation is needed. This is the same reason why we need to boil our water before we drink it-so that it kills some of the harmful micro-organisms.
