Rocky girls edge Collins in tourney title contest BY HAP FRY • HapFry@coloradoan.com • December 6, 2009 Todd Matkin is only three games into his coaching career at Rocky Mountain High School, yet he’s already got a tournament championship under his belt. Matkin’s Rocky Mountain girls basketball team won a hard-fought 38-32 overtime-decision Saturday over Fort Collins in the championship game of the Northern Colorado Challenge. “It’s a great start, but it’s a testament to the girls,” Matkin said. “They put in a ton of time. They lifted in the summer and worked hard in the fall. The credit goes to them.” Saturday’s bout not only pitted crosstown rivals against one another, it also was a matchup of two Sweet 16 teams from last year’s Class 5A state tournament.
