What is the name of the buddhist scripture?
There are different scriptures for different types of Buddhists. Therevada Buddhists only accept the Tipitaka (meaning three baskets because it was originally written on leaves and collected in three baskets). The three baskets are Vinaya Pitaka (rules for monks and nuns), Sutta Pitaka (the Buddha’s teaching) and Abhidhamma Pitaka (higher teaching. Mahayana Buddhists accept this scripture but also have their own additional writings called sutras. Tibetan Buddhists also accept the Tipitaka but also have their own sutras.
