What is the name of Earths galaxy??
The Milky Way Galaxy. That hazy glowing band stretching across the night sky was called the Milky Way long before it was even known what galaxies were. After the telescope was invented, “spiral nebulae” were seen in the sky and eventually it was discovered that they were in fact huge (and very distant) collections of stars that came to be called galaxies. Astronomers realized that we were inside a galaxy ourselves, and our view from the inside is what makes that hazy glowing band across the sky, so our galaxy was named after it, the Milky Way.
