What is the name of a winged lion?
The winged lion does not fall into any of the mythological beasts from the ancient world. There were griffins, which were winged lions with heads of eagles, and a winged lion with a human head from Babylonia, but nothing else that I know of. The winged lion, as you may know already, is a symbol of St Mark, so it’s a fairly recent Christian oriented symbol so even in modern sculptures, you wouldn’t have a name of a specific beast.
