What is the name for the type of documentary with voice-over narration and interviews?
Different kinds of documentary convention may be used in drama documentary: 1) indirect address (cinema verite/fly-on-the-wall style: hand-held camera, natural lighting and sound – signifying actuality, giving the impression of real events being captured by the camera (e.g. The Cops). 2) direct address: the more conventional documentary approach – narrated (by onscreen narrator or, more usually, a voiceover), archive footage (perhaps newsreel), interviews to camera, captions and titles documentary (e.g. Smallpox 2002). Drama documentaries often combine both documentary styles (but not always).
