Hinge joints are referred to as ginglymus joints. Typical hinge joints are the joints in the fingers and the joint between the humerus and the ulna. Purists say the knee and ankle are not typical ginglymus joints because they allow for some lateral movement. Personally I would rather contemplate my navel than worry about such issues.
