What is the mythological origin of the word echo?
In Greek mythology, Echo was a nymph who loved to talk. Because she helped Zeus escape from Hera’s jealous wrath, she was punished by Hera. She would no longer be able to talk; all she could do was to faintly repeat the last few words of someone else’s sentence. She fell in love with Narcissus, and, because he did not return her love, she faded away until all that was left but her voice.
