What is the most versatile undergraduate major?
There is no “pre-law” major at many schools for two reasons. 1) Everything you could possibly major in is somehow related to the study of law later. Some lawyers will practice in business, some in medicine and science, some in music and arts. There is no field of study that can’t use an attorney acquainted with that field. 2) The most valuable education one can get is what is called the general education core. Every major covers these areas sufficiently. What is studied in the major simply develops writing, speaking, critical reasoning, and analysis skills. Then too – there’s the whole problem that if you spend $80-100K on a bachelor’s degree in “pre-law” and then don’t go to law school, what do you do with that degree?
