What is the most versatile inflatable kayak for ~$400?
You will be hard-pressed to find something new in that mid-price range with those specs. The cheapo inflatables (Sevylor, Sea Eagle, Coleman) run around $100-$200 and are slow, hard to paddle and not much fun — also not safe on big rivers or open water (Ok if your just want to sit and fish in a pond or low-volume river.) If you want something lighter, more maneuverable and safer you are looking at close to $1,000 and up. Top of the line is the Feathercraft inflatables (I own two Feathercraft folding boats and they are kind of the Mercedes Benz of portable kayaks). You could look at the Innova brand — they are light and reasonably well-designed but a new single is around $800, more for a double. Also, a double will be quite a bit heavier and these tend to be awkward to paddle for a solo paddler (except for the Feathercrafts, but you get what you pay for.)
