What is the most suitable product for outdoor tile installations?
According to international standards, fully vitrified tiles are the most suitable product for outdoor installations. They absorb less than 0.5% moisture and are frost resistant. They can very well withstand extreme climatic variations and remain intact in freeze/thaw conditions. When and where should backer board be used? Cement backer boards are thin concrete sheets that are used to cover plywood subfloors. Ceramic and stone tiles are not flexible and require a more rigid substrate than other materials. Cement backer board provides a solid, flat surface to install tiles on if you have a wood subfloor. Why should I use a waterproofing membrane? A waterproof membrane stops moisture from seeping through the floors. In areas known for high-moisture, such as laundry rooms, kitchens and a shower floors, a waterproof membrane is recommended over the subfloor (and under the cement backerboard if you are using a backerboard).
