What is the most successful beatles album?
In terms of charts, its actually the ‘red’ and blue’ best of sets that came out in the 1970s, covering highlights from the years 1962-66 and 1967-70. In terms of Beatles albums proper, ‘The White Album’ is usually said to be the best-selling, although I’m never sure if that’s because it counts as two sales in one go (its a double album for the two of you reading this who didn’t know!!) As for most successful musically, I have to agree and say ‘Revolver’. Every other Beatles album has either John, Paul or (towards the end) George on great form individually, but this album has all three at their inventive best. And no other album I’ve yet to hear covers the range from beautiful ballads to epic protest songs to crunchy records to what-the-hell-is-going-on songs like ‘tomorrow never knows’. Music at its best I think.
