What is the most recent information on duration of immunity for the Bordetella (Kennel Cough) vaccination?
The American Animal Hospital Association (AAHA) provides vaccination guidelines for veterinary schools and veterinarians. AAHA found in their recent studies (done in 2003 and 2006) that the duration of immunity for the Bordetella (Kennel Cough) vaccination is NOT 1 year as previously believed. Instead, the Bordetella vaccination is shown to be effective for only 6 to 8 months. AAHA recommends revaccination every 6 months to maintain optimum protection for dogs that are frequently in the boarding environment or other high risk environments.
