What is the most preferred degree for a person to have for The Diplomatic Service?

The people I know working in the diplomatic service have a variety of degrees. One has a degree in chemistry, one in law, another in history… I get the impression that any decent ‘traditional’ subject will be considered, so as long as you weren’t set on studying media or animation discussion or something, you can do a degree in whatever you wish, and have a fair chance of getting in – as long as you get a good degree (a 1st or a 2:1).
