One powerful electromagnet you can possibly build at home is made of ferrite rods. Here’s how to assemble it: 1. You are going to need a ferrite rod for the magnetic core. Ferrite rods will make a much stronger magnetic field. 2. Using an enameled copper wire, wrap it a strand of it as tightly as you can from one end of the ferrite rod to the other. Make sure you go in one direction only and the wire does not overlap itself. Both ends of the wire should be fastened with a small piece of tape. 3. Upon reaching the end, run the wire straight down where you started. Begin again by coiling it in the same direction going to the top. You have now two parallel spirals of wire going from the bottom to the top of the core. 4.
