What is the most popular engine type for the Boeing 747-400?
The engine most used on the 747-400 will be either the GE CF6 or the Pratt and Whitney 4062. From memory the only airlines to order Rolls Royce powered 747-400s were British Airways, Cathay Pacific, Qantas, Air New Zealand and Cargolux. I assume that the GE CF6 was the more popular than the P7W 4062 as many major airlines such as Lufthansa, China Airlines, ANA, Japan Airlines, Air France, KLM and Virgin Atlantic. Yes the GE CF6-80 is the most efficient engine available on the Boeing 747-400.
