What is the most money you have ever given a homeless person?
Probably five bucks. I used to carry around copies of the Homeless Resource List from 211 Information and Referral, and I got mixed results with that. I’ve had it thrown back in my face, and I’ve also had people accept it and ask questions. Some have asked for help reading it. I also have bus tokens for when people ask for “change for a ticket.” Sometimes those don’t go over too well. I haven’t figured out the magical thing to do yet to figure out who is just bumming a living and who really needs help. Just have to keep going, I guess.
