What is the most important thing Cal students can do to prepare for medical school?
Bethany Wexler (BW): I think having the proper mindset is paramount. Everyone usually says that you need to have a deep understanding of main topics and be able to apply your knowledge to new material, but if you are not mentally ready to take the step to become a doctor, then don’t rush into it. You’re only young once, take the time to figure things out, take classes that you would regret never taking, go abroad, or do something that helps define who you are and what you want to do. NL: One of the most important things a student can do to prepare for med school is to get involved in the community – whether it’s tutoring or volunteering at a hospital. No matter what you end up doing in the medical field, the bottom line is that you’re going to be helping people, and you need to know if that’s what you’re going to want to do as a career.
