What is the most important point(s) in this Scripture concerning giving away our faith?
As we consider giving away our faith, one of the most important points for us to remember is that it isn’t optional for anyone who follows Jesus to do so. Jesus commanded His disciples to make disciples of all nations. We are His disciples, so we are also commanded to make disciples. In the original Greek text, the only action verb in the list of commands is “make disciples.” Going is a participle as is teaching and baptizing. Each of these take their actions from the main verb—make disciples. For us that means that while it is important to go out in Jesus’ name, to teach our children and one another to obey what Jesus commanded, it is imperative that we make disciples. We can only do that as we give away our faith in Jesus. It has been said that Christianity is more “caught” than “taught.” That means that Jesus’ love, grace and forgiveness is best experienced through a disciple who is loving, gracious and forgiving.
