The information below is based on the dosage guidelines your doctor uses. Depending on your condition and medical history, your doctor may prescribe a different regimen. Do not change the dosage or stop taking your medication without your doctor’s approval. All dosages of Retrovir must be very closely monitored by your physician. The following dosages are general; your physician will tailor the dose to your specific condition. Tablets, Capsules, and Syrup Adults: The usual dose of Retrovir, in combination with other HIV drugs, is 600 milligrams (mg) a day, divided into smaller doses. If you are pregnant, the usual dosage is 100 mg in capsules, tablets, or syrup 5 times a day, beginning at 14 weeks of pregnancy, until you go into labor. You will then be given the drug intravenously until the baby is born. The baby will get Retrovir every 6 hours until it is 6 weeks old.
