What is the most important factor to the success of transformational efforts?
For organizations, the most important factor to the success of any transformational effort is the receptiveness of the individuals in-charge to positive change for themselves first and for their teams, departments, and organizations later. No amount of money and/or effort will materially change the status quo if people observe that change efforts are only talked about and not actually lived by the leaders they look up to for guidance on how to succeed. As Gandhi said, “Let us become the change we seek in the world.” For individuals, the most important factor to the success of any transformational effort is addressing fear. When fears outweigh perceived benefits, individuals will not be open to change. When fear is appropriately addressed and honored for the purpose that it serves, individuals can begin to open up to the possibility of change in their lives.
