The design is by far the most important part of any sprinkler system. Where the heads are located directly affects how water efficient the system is. The goal of every design is to apply water evenly throughout the yard and minimize overspray into unwanted areas. An important rule in sprinkler design is very simple: Always spray away from what you dont want to water. All sprinkler heads spray in a circular fashion. All yards are defined by straight lines (the house, driveways, property lines, decks, etc.) By putting the heads near the straight lines, the heads can only spray away from them and apply the water where it belongs.
