What is the most cost-effective method to insulate a pole building?
The great majority of heat loss or gain is through the roof. With heating or cooling, limiting the space needing to be controlled is a large consideration. In a pole building, installing framing (ceiling joists) between the bottom chords of the roof trusses, installing a ceiling to the underside of the framing (typically drywall) and blowing fiberglass or other loose fill insulation on top of the ceiling is most cost-effective. When a closed attic space is created, it is important to provide adequate ventilation. An insulation cavity in the walls can be created either by commercial wall girts (turning the wall framing flat like shelves on 24-inch centers between the posts) or by use of a non-structural stud wall between the posts.
