What is the most commonly used currency in Sweden and Norway?
Norway is not even in the EU, and although Sweden is, we’re still not changing to Euro any time soon. The Norwegian krone is worth about 10½ pence, while the Swedish krona is only worth 9 p. Prices in Norway are considerably higher than in Sweden, so if you’re driving, fill your car up with petrol in Sweden! In the areas of Sweden bordering Norway, you get a constant stream of Norwegians going across to Sweden on a daily basis shopping for cheap petrol, food and booze! Apart from kronor, plastic will work well in both countries. VISA or Master Cards are accepted and used almost everywhere, particularly in Sweden, although you may incur a small fee for purchases below 100 kronor. You’ll need some cash in the local currencies, but there’s no need to go overboard – consider also the normal risks involved with carrying too much cash while travelling.
