What is the most common street name in the US?
According to http://www.nlc.org/about_cities/cities_101/184.cfm , as of February 1993, it is “Second” (2nd). Second occurs more than First, according to that page, because “…it is not uncommon for the first street to be named to suggest the center of the town, such as Main Street or renamed in honor of a historic figure, such as George Washington”. Also note that the source of that page (the U.S. Census Bureau) may have multiply-counted streets, such as those which have both “East” and “West” or “North” and “South” sections. Dec 15, 2005 8.4 Q: Why is WY 789 numbered as such? A: It was part of a longer multi-state SR 789. In the 1950s and 1960s it went from the Mexican border in Arizona to the Canadian border in Montana. The only state that didn’t just multiplex 789 with other state/U.S. routes was Wyoming, and when Arizona, New Mexico, Colorado and Montana got rid of their 789s in the late 1970s, Wyoming was left with a weirdly numbered route, which remains to this day.
