Emergency medical technicians (EMTs) provide immediate, on-site medical care to patients in emergency situations; this can include automobile accidents, heart attacks and other crisis situations. They also provide care while transporting patients to medical facilities. Candidates interested in a career as as EMT can pursue associate’s degree, 2-year EMT school program. This program consists of both classroom and clinical components. Typical courses include medical terminology, crisis intervention, EMT basic rescue, patient assessment and other courses. Clinical training will involve hands-on exercises administering physical exams, trauma assessments, airway maintenance, oxygen, CPR and semi-automatic defibrillation medicine.
