What is the most common misconception of Africa that you’ve come across?

Two misconceptions: Africans are poor and women are second-class citizens and weak. Africa would not be Africa were it not for the strength of its women. These women fight to bring their children into the world. They juggle the parenting, care and nurture of their children while running their homes. They cook, feed, fetch water and regardless of their circumstances, their children are their pride and joy. And as for Africans being poor, we might be in materialistic ways but I’ve found the greatest generosity from those with the least to give. In Sierra Leone, I was offered food to eat by those who hadn’t eaten. But what they had they shared. And that is wealth beyond any of our comprehension. What projects are you currently working on? I’m working with the Canadian Red Cross on a project called MalariaBites. Since 2003, the CRC has been donating mosquito bed nets to countries across the continent.
