What is the most common cause for tile delamination?

0

Most tile delamination is site related. The most common causes for delamination are: 1. Improper bedding of the tile. Tile should have a minimum of 80% contact on interior surfaces and a minimum of 95% contact on exterior and wet surfaces and have evenly disbursed bonding material coverage under the tile. It is suggested that a few random tiles be removed during installation to examine the bonding spread on the back of the tile. 2. Bond breakers on the substrate. Bond breakers may consist of curing compounds, paint, dust, oil, sealers etc. on the concrete. Always ensure an ample amount of mortar is applied to the tile when installing the tile to the actual surface to which it is to be adhered to. 3. Substrate movement. When the subfloor does not have adequate deflection (L/360) the floor may be deflecting too much, creating a stress on the tile. This movement can rock or crack the tile and over time move sufficiently to delaminate the tile.
