What is the Moores Cancer Center doing to protect individuals from medical identity theft?
A. While we do not believe that the security incident places individuals at risk for medical identity theft, we can assure you that UCSD Medical Center’s identity theft prevention program includes safeguards such as verifying photo identification at patient check-in and referring inconsistencies for further review by the treating providers and to the UCSD Privacy Office. In the same way in which you monitor credit card statements, you may monitor your medical billing “Explanation of Benefits” or “EOB” reports for questionable charges, such as dates listed that you did not receive treatment. Refer questions to the insurer or to the provider involved.
