What is the Modified Sign Language Proficiency Interview (MSLPI)?
The Modified Sign Language Proficiency Interview (MSLPI) is a one-to-one, structured, recorded interview between a deaf/hard of hearing (D/HH) student* and a trained MSLPI interviewer. The purpose of the MSLPI is to determine the current level of ASL/sign language skills. The MSLPI, if given through the years, might assist with documentation of American Sign Language (ASL) acquisition gains. The MSLPI process consists of the interview, the rating, and the report. * Students must meet eligibility requirements as defined in the Michigan Administrative Rules for Special Education (June 2010).
