What is the moderator of the curia?
The curia is the central administration of the diocese. The moderator of the curia, according to Canon Law, must be a priest or bishop and should be a vicar general unless the diocesan bishop makes an exception because of local circumstances. The moderator is expected to possess and exercise ordinary executive power and be able to make pastoral decisions affecting the entire diocese. He is concerned primarily with administrative matters and with the supervision of those working in the curia. His duties refer to the centralized administrative offices rather than to pastoral activity in a particular region or apostolate.
